Current Affiliations

Recently graduated doctoral student (PhD) from the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) of the University of Southampton, Group Zheludev. Participant in the EU-Network of Excellence Metamorphose.

Memberships in professional societies: German Physical Society, Institute of Physics (UK), European Physical Society, Optical Society of America, and European Optical Society.

Specific Areas of Interests

Physics of Electromagnetism. Generally located in the areas of nanophotonics and meta-materials—in particular focusing on planar symmetries, namely chirality, fractals and quasiperiodicity. Current work is predominantly experimental (optical and microwave spectral ranges), but with strong simulative and theoretical components (Finite Element, Monte Carlo, FDTD, analytical physical description, mathematical symmetry measures etc.).

Moreover, not least due to earlier work at the German Naval Medical Institute, my interests include medical physics and biophysics, specifically analysis of biological data and applications of biophotonics.

Master of Philosophy (research) from the Quantum, Light & Matter Group (School of Physics and Astronomy) of the University of Southampton, thesis "Application of Planar Chirality to Nanophotonics, Astronomy and Image Analysis" (supervisor Prof. Nikolay I. Zheludev).

Visiting student (research) at the Laser Physics Group (Department of Physics and Astronomy) of the University of Southampton (supervisor Prof. Nikolay I. Zheludev).

Scholarship of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).

Diploma student at the University of Hamburg, Department of Physics,- intermediate diploma (Vordiplom) in Physics with Applied Mathematics with mark "sehr gut" (highest).

Military service with the Department of Applied Sciences of the German Naval Medical Institute (Schiffahrtmedizinisches Institut der Marine), Federal German Navy (supervisor FLA PD Dr. Andreas Koch).

Annual Special Price of the School Authority of Hamburg for outstanding achievements in research.

German delegate to the annual Australian International Space School (AISS).

German delegate to NASA's annual International Space Camp (ISC), appointed by Deutsche Agentur für Raumfahrtangelegenheiten (DARA).

Several awards in young scientist competitions (Jugend forscht, Schüler experimentieren): two 1st, one 2nd and four special prizes.
